Becoming an eBay Power Seller

eBay offers its sellers the opportunity to become a power seller when they meet a specified list of criteria.   Becoming a power seller can give you a lot more presence on eBay, help you attract more customers, and even save you money on eBay’s final value fees.  There are almost 200 million users on eBay, and it can be hard to set yourself apart from everyone else – but power seller status can help.  The following eBook by Internet Marketing Guru John Thornhill can help you become an eBay power seller in 90 days “Become An eBay(R) Powerseller In 90 Days”.  There are serveral other great eBooks that can help you become a power seller especially if you want to start selling on eBay motors.  It’s estimated that less than 4% of all eBay sellers are branded with the power seller status.  You can boost your eBay business by becoming a power seller and becoming a member of this elite group. But how do you become a power seller.

eBay power sellers consistently sell a high volume of items, must maintain a minimum of 98% positive feedback ratings, and provide a high level of customer service to their buyers.  The power seller icon is displayed next to your username when you achieve power seller status, helping buyers quickly determine who is among the cream of the selling crop.  Buyers know that quality sellers are synonymous with the power seller status.

Power sellers are listed under one of the five power selling tiers: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and titanium.  Each tier requires you to meet the monthly minimum sales for at least the past three months to get in on that tier.  For each tier, the respective minimums are: $1,000, $3,000, $10,000, $25,000, and $150,000.  Obviously, $150,000 a month is a hard number to hit, but you can make a respectable $3,000 a month through selling on eBay with ease, and enjoy power seller status at the silver level.

Power seller status isn’t focused on just your sales, of course – high quality customer service is the most important criterion for become a power seller.  Power sellers consistently provide their buyers with high quality customer service that goes above and beyond the call of duty to keep their buyers happy.  This level of customer service may seem rather daunting, especially if you’re only looking to make a little bit of extra cash to use for spending money, but it’s really not all that difficult.  It’s the little things that count, like the extra e-mail thanking your customers for their loyalty, a handwritten note in every package telling buyers you appreciate their business, or throwing in an extra something small with your items to let buyers know that you appreciate them.

These little extras are all you need to get yourself that coveted power seller status.  With a little bit of work on your part, you too can enjoy the benefits of becoming a power seller, and watch your eBay business boom.

I wish you all GREAT SUCCESS!

My wife, Lynne has sold many things on eBay but has never, ever done an “About Me” page.  So it was interesting to find out about this pretty easy way of promoting our products.  All of this passes the common sense test, therefore, she is in the process of setting this up as we speak.  So although I can’t rant and rave that this works as yet, I’ve talked to friends that say it is the way to go in eBay.  Stay tuned and I’ll let you know how it goes.

Free advertising is always good advertising, especially when you are just starting your eBay business. One way to get free advertising is by doing something with your eBay about me page. The about me page is one of the least used features on eBay but it has the potential to increase your sales. Your about me page can be used to build trust and add some personality to your User ID and eBay store. It can be used to drive traffic to your eBay listings. When you create an about me page, a small red and blue icon appears next to your member ID. If you click on the ICON you are taken to the about me page.

Your about me page on eBay offers you an unlimited amount of space to design, add information about you and your business, and display stats such as your most recent feedback and contact information. Many people also use their eBay about me page to outline their return policies and customer service practices in detail. You can also add your company logo to your my eBay page.

You can also use your about me page for other purposes, as well. Add information about your business and how it got started, why you sell on eBay, and what type of items you usually sell. Assure your buyers that they won’t find a better deal anywhere else. Connect with potential bidders by offering a lot of information on your about me page.

Using an about me template for a layout can be a great way to make your page more attractive to potential buyers. They can give your page a more professional look, and catch the attention of your customers. If you don’t have any HTML experience, you can find free about me templates for your page online.

Adding links to your eBay about me page is a good way to get others to your store, as well. You can link to another website you own, another store you run, or your personal blog. Link back to your eBay about me page wherever you can squeeze in the HTML – on your website, in your e-mail, and even on your forum signatures when you post on other sites on the internet.

Using your about me page as a marketing tool is fast, easy, and it’s free. It gives your buyers a way to learn more about your eBay company and the items you sell, as well as your customer service and return policies. This information is important to many buyers, and listing it in an easy-to-find place can increase your sales. It also keeps your customers well aware of your policies so they don’t have to guess at the kind of service they will receive. Start your eBay about me page today, and watch how your sales start to grow!

Get Started as an eBay Seller

Getting started as an eBay seller is simple and quick. Follow these easy steps to get started with your eBay home business:

Register Your Username

When you are ready to take the plunge into your own eBay home business, head over to and register your username. You should pick a username that matches the business you want to get started in. Don’t worry if you change your business inventory or your mind later on – eBay allows you to change your username whenever you want, as many times as you want, without losing your feedback rating or reputation.

Sign Up As A Seller

Once your username is registered, you’ll need to set up your selling account with eBay. Simply click on the selling tab on eBay’s website, and you’ll be prompted to fill in information such as your mailing address for your business, and your PayPal information. You may also be required to plug in a bank account or credit card number. This isn’t so eBay can charge you for signing up; eBay has a listing fee and a final value fee on all auctions for sellers, so your eBay fees every month will be charged to your bank account or credit card, unless you specify otherwise.

Prepare Your Items

Get together the items you plan on listing. Make sure that if they’re brand new, everything that should be with the item is with it. If it’s a used item, take note of anything that is missing, and clean the item thoroughly. Once you’ve finished, take photographs of your items with a digital camera. Upload the pictures, and create descriptions for each one. These should be as detailed as humanly possible, listing every single defect the item may have, including missing parts, broken pieces, stains, discolorations, and anything else. Add in if the item comes from a home with smokers or pets to alert your buyers with allergies.

List Your Auctions

Once the photographs and the descriptions are ready to go, it’s time to set up your auctions. Under the selling tab, you will see an option for listing a new auction. Fill in the keywords for your auction, and the next page will give you the chance to fill in the description, add photographs, a title, and the starting price for the auction. When this is all filled out, submit the auction to get it listed on eBay.

That’s it! You’ve officially listed your first auction on eBay. Now, all that’s left to do is watch the bids come in. When your auction is over, and you’ve collected the money, remember to ship the item out as soon as possible, and leave feedback for your buyer. Congratulations you now have a new home based business on eBay.

Now isn’t that easy?

Home Based Business Tax Deductions

Home-based businesses are eligible for tax deductions just like brick and mortar businesses. You can get tax deductions for the following:

Traveling Expenses: If you travel by air for any business related to work, then you should definitely save your tickets or receipts, by claiming those expenses as tax deductions. If you are using your car for your business needs, then you can also deduct those expenses, including your fuel bills, repair bills, insurance and loan repayments. You will also need to maintain a mileage log of your car. These expenses will, however be permissible only when you use your car for business purposes only and not for your personal purposes. Even if you travel out of town for your business, then you can still deduct your hotel room and meal expenses. However, if you take your family along, then you will only be able to claim for yourself and not for your family. If you take any business associate to lunch or dinner, then these too can be claimed, provided you have saved your restaurant bills.

Telephone Expenses: In order to avoid confusion, while filing your taxes, it is better to install a separate phone line in your home or purchase a separate mobile phone that caters only to your business. You can then claim these phone bills as tax deductions.

Home Mortgage Interest: You can also deduct the corresponding amount of your home mortgage interest that you are currently using as your home-based office. The space utilized by your office will be compared with the total size of your home and the corresponding percentage will be allowed as a deduction. According to the IRS, the office space must be used regularly and exclusively for business purposes

Business Supplies and Equipment: If you are using a computer or a copier for your business, then you can also claim such expenses as deductions. Accounting software packages, anti-virus programs or any other computer programs along with recurring expenses, such as computer stationary, postage or other expenses can also be included in tax deductions. If you are using an Internet service, then you can also claim these expenses as tax deductions. Make a point to save all your receipts in order to legitimize your claims.

Insurance Premiums: You can also deduct your health insurance premiums, if you are running your home business on a sole proprietorship basis. However, you will not be allowed to do the same for your family members, unless they are also employed in your business. You can also deduct half the amount of your personal social security payments.

It would be better, if you just save all the bills and receipts of all your expenses incurred in your home based business and submit them to your tax consultant, who can then sort them and claim them under the correct deduction heading. You should not have any problems with the tax authorities, if your tax deductions are genuine and you have the necessary bills to back your claims.

Maintain accurate financial records of all expenses, as well as income, throughout the year so they will be readily available when preparing your tax return. For example, if you plan to deduct mileage or any expenses related to use of your vehicle (which can include tolls and parking fees, state property tax and loan interest), keep a log in the vehicle and use it to note odometer readings at the start and end of each trip as well as the trip’s purpose.
